I love to walk at night and look into windows. I glimpse vignettes of lives lived through the glass: people cooking dinner, talking to their kids, watching television, standing alone in the window looking back at me. They are like small documentary films caught mid-narrative, with just a tantalizing hint of a story line. Through the Window is an ongoing series started during the second winter of the COVID pandemic. It captures glimpses of everyday life through our dramatically altered relationships with interior spaces. On one hand, the cold harsh climate of Canada forces us indoors, protecting and sheltering us. On the other hand, the uncertainty of unprecedented events, and the anxiety of the political climate confines us to these spaces offering little comfort. Through the Window is an exploration into the privacy of our interior spaces.
